about

Take one of the best live bands in Sussex, England during the 1980's.
Put them in a rehearsal room in Brighton on a warm Summer evening in 1987.
Set up a stereo condenser microphone in the middle of the room, and plug it into a simple two track recorder, and press record.
The result is 'First Fury'
The greatest crime is that no decent quality studio recordings were ever made of this band. They were never signed to a major label, and the 'big break' never came. On first listen to this collection, it is hard to understand why that was?
The original 10 songs, plus the 4 bonus tracks (available if you download the whole album), made up the majority of the bands live set during 1987's 'Rustic ramble' tour.
These songs have been available online before (apart from the bonus tracks) , but this is the first time that 'First Fury' has been available as a download collection.
Paul Seccombe spent some considerable time restoring, polishing and digitally remastering the original cassette tape recordings, but let us not kid ourselves that the results are a pristine improvement. They are not.
This is 'A Kind of Fury' in their raw live state. Volume levels and tape distortion play their part.
As primitive as the recordings are, they showcase the power and energy that Seccombe, MacDonald, Robey and Webb possessed.
The band created a wild west celtic rock sound that not only drew on the influences of bands like Big Country, Thin Lizzy, and U2, but took inspiration from spaghetti western soundtracks by Ennio Morricone. They imagined a world in which guns were the law, where tales of scoundrels and pioneers were told. A tough land where the strongest survived, but where love could still soften and steal your heart.
Paul Seccombe: "I believe this is the best set of songs, as a themed collection I have ever written. Maybe one day, with any justice, we will get a chance to re-record these songs properly, but until then, don't be put off by the quality of the recordings, and relish in the magnificence that was, or should I say, is, A Kind of Fury"
