about

It's April 1992. I had been in New Zealand 10 months. I was living in New Plymouth with my young family and my in-laws. In Los Angeles riots were taking place (Hollywood is only make believe), I was homesick, missing my friends and family in England, especially my son Alex (Call me son). It was also an exciting time, a new country, a new future, a new political landscape (Ship of fools), time to experiment with my music (Someone to somewhere, Mother), time to expand on my love of Electronic music (Love's last moment, Inside these walls) and there was that rainy warm night I got so homesick I walked home rather intoxicated (Vogeltown).
I had plenty of new music I wanted to make, but no idea how it was going to come out. I'd made a friend in Englishman Des Cain in New Plymouth, having produced a single for him earlier that year "Taranaki day" & "Instant kiwi" and he offered me the use of his brand new office/garage space. So, armed with a 4 track cassette recorder, Des's synth, guitar, e-bow, drum machine and mic, I set up for a week out in his back yard. Six full on days, starting from scratch, just jamming and writing as I went.
This album is the result of that week. It documents a period in my life that was both exciting and also full of melancholy. These songs have been remastered from a cassette tape I've had sitting in a box for over 20 years, so please try to be patient and not too over critical of the quality of the recordings. I'm proud of the results, and on the days now I end up procrastinating, I just remember back to what I achieved in one week, with just my creative juices flowing, and a handful of cheap tools.
This album is dedicated to Christine Galvin, Zoe Seccombe and Kate Seccombe (I must have been a pain in the arse during that time) and also to the memory of Carol Galvin, who gave me love, space and money when I needed it most.

Note: When you download the album you also receive a small photo collection from that time.
